How would you feel if you could not afford to send your child to school ?

Most schools in Haiti are private and require tuition. Many families can not afford to pay even $100.00 per year to send their child to school. 35% of Haitian youth are illiterate. The average child spends less than 4 years in school. Attendance in secondary school is below 30%. Haitian children are eager to learn. They can walk as much as an hour each way to go to school.

Funding teacher salaries provides a continuity of education, resulting in improved exam results and an economic stability that benefits the students and the community.

A teacher is paid around $150 a month, or $1500 a year.
